Soccer Club history Girondins de Bordeaux

Founded in 1919, FCGB is a French soccer club that at the time belonged to the Girondins de Bordeaux sports club. The team first played at the Stade de Chartrons, then at the Stade Chaban Delmas, before moving to the Matmut Atlantique, which was inaugurated in 2015 under the nom of Nouveau stade de Bordeaux.

In 1937, the club won its premier trophy in the third edition of the France amateur soccer championship. Following this victory, the club achieved professional status and was admitted to the second division. In 1941, the team won the France Cup, beating SC Fives 2 goals to 0. Les Girondins were promoted to Division 1 in 1949, winning the championship by six points from Lille, a record for the French D1. The club went through a number of difficult periods thereafter, moving back and forth between the first and second divisions.

In 1978 ,Claude Bez became club president. Several international soccer players were recruited to strengthen the team, including Dominique Dropsy, Jean Tigana and René Girard. Led by the talent of the emblematic Alain Giresse, the Girondins became a leading team in French soccer During the 80s. The club won 3 league titles in 1984, 1985 and 1987, and 2 France cups. In 1985 and 1987, they reached the semi-finals of the ligue des Championscompetition.

For the season, Frenchman Jean Louis Gasset is the club's new coach. The squad includes such famous players as Ben Arfa, Mexer and Ui-Jo.
