A two-season strip that marked a new era at Craven Cottage in 2003. After saving Fulham from relegation with three wins from five games at the end of the previous campaign, Chris Coleman was appointed full-time manager in the summer. It was an inspired decision. Implementing a new 4-3-3 system, Coleman's team took Premiership by storm and found themselves in the running for Ligue des champions by Christmas. The loss of star striker Louis Saha to Manchester United in January put the brakes on this progress, but the Whites still reached ninth place, their highest ever finish in the top flight, at the end of the 2003/04 campaign, followed by 13th place in 2004/05.
